Earlier this week I was blessed to have the chance to travel down to London to capture the exciting launch of a brand new silhouette set to make its mark on the footwear world.
The P.O.D. System is the latest sneaker from the revolutionary German sportswear giants, Adidas. Reminiscent of the Y-3 range, this new trainer blends style and functionality perfectly, to create one of the years most standout new additions.
Bare with me here as I delve into everything that makes this shoe special, now let’s get technical 🤓….
The Adidas Original’s new P.O.D. S3.1 is a supple, sweeping silhouette that takes a lofty idea from the mid-1990s and re-explores it with modern technology.
At the heart of the trainer is tech and the core feature, the S3.1 is a ‘Point of Deflection’ system, or ‘podular’ outsole, made up of three components, which merges cushioning by using a Torsion-like ‘Point of Deflection bridge’ to join an EVA (ethyl vinyl acetate) forefoot into a shapely Adidas BOOST booty. Nice right?!
Its modular design aims to take pieces that are good alone but better together – creating the ultimate sneaker union and a brand new standout line of sneakers for Adidas, built for natural motion.
Style and aesthetic is one thing when it comes to a sneaker, but the key factor which makes a shoe truly wearable is comfort, and here Adidas knocks it out of the park. I dare say it, but the P.O.D. systems may just be the most comfortable shoe in my collection.
The modules are designed to offer shock absorption and stability to the foot at key points of impact. The high-rebound EVA (ethyl vinyl acetate) element offers a soft and responsive cushioning to the forefoot, while the Boost heel is designed to offer support to the rear of the foot.
These are connected by the third element, the Point of Deflection Bridge, designed to support the natural twist and curve of the foot. The name P.O.D.System takes its name from this element, so there you have it. Adidas’ attempt to find the beauty in unexpected combinations has really paid off here.
This is 100% a sneaker designed for the streets, for both men and women. Light and breathable, the mesh construction forms the upper part of the shoe and of course features Adidas’ trademark stripes on its side, fabric lace eyelet panels and a branded heel tab.
Now onto the launch event itself. I have to give the JD Sports team a huge shoutout for bringing me down to London for the incredible occasion. London’s East End Studio Spaces played host to the evening, just a short stone’s throw away from the well known Tobacco Dock.
On arrival, I received my pair of Adidas P.O.D. boxed up to perfection with name tag included. The POD system box definitely brings something new to the table and makes a huge statement, grabbing your attention from the get-go. Packing a punch with size, the P.O.D.’s sat comfy inside waiting to be tried on.
JD held a special influencers reception before the event was open to the public, here I got to network with some fellow creatives from down south, it’s always great to connect with people face to face, rather than through a phone screen.

I quickly linked up with Liam and Demz a.k.a I Be The Cool and we made our way around the atmospheric large venue. The evening was packed full of entertainment, with DJ Jamz Supernova on decks providing the soundtrack and non-other than newcomer Hardy Caprio and the legendary Pusha T as headline performers, sending London into pandemonium.

As always with JD events, the energy and vibe of the venue & entertainment were second to none. Adidas & JD served up special drinks and sneaker-inspired sweet treats. Freestyle dancers showed off their talents in a competition to close the incredible night. London is like a second home for me and I always enjoy my trips to the capital, I’m looking forward to more opportunities I’ll be sharing with you over the rest of 2018.
